format (rotissere/head-to-head)

pitching - W, SV, WHIP, ERA, Quality Starts/Holds [lame I know, but you gotta keep room for the middle relievers and SPs on shitty teams to play a factor]

I don't like limits on transactions or pitching... I guess it depends on whether you have bigger or smaller rosters really, as you'd be adding/dropping a lot more if the amount of "quality" on the FA list was larger.

Head-to-head, definitely. I hate rotisserie, by comparison.

after last season i think it's clear we need some kind of limits on either transactions or pitching. people went kind of nuts.

oh and last year we had 10 teams but i could see us going to 12 or 14 this year. the exact number doesn't matter unless we do head-to-head i guess.

I made a limit of 7 transaction a week in my college friends league. That number will probably go down once I o.k. it with everybody. I think a similar weekly limit for omgtru will make everyone happy. Even Daniel couldn't use more than 7 a week. But then again I put 14 bench spots in, so maybe I'm not the best to be taking advise from.

Also, I'm worried head to head in baseball might be a bust, but its got my vote.

Yeah I don't think you could do pitching in a head-to-head league unless you made it entirely average based or put strict substitution or innings pitched limits. Perhaps make the bench larger and have very few active pitcher spots, like 2SP, 2RP, or maybe even less, like 1SP, 2RP would prolly be best (that or 1SP, 1RP, 1P). Then your pitching slots would be full regardless of streaming, thus negating its effects largely. Heck maybe even do that if we go rotisserie.

OK, so here's my take: I like most of what JT said (and that's essentially what we would have set up) and I think head to head-- over a week to week period of time-- is preferable. The thing with making relief pitchers viable (i.e. Qual IP and holds as well as saves) is that the quality pitchers have effectively become 1.5 what they were last year. Think if someone like Joey or I could have used a Okajima or if Bedard retarded amount of quality outings had meant more than just a tick on stat sheet. If it were a point on a weekly basis, the pitching decisions are waaaaaayyyyyyy more effective.

That said, the offensive numbers diminish a bit. I say use OPS instead of OBP, that way the Youkilis's of the world are still viable, but the badasses are still, you know, badass.

Also, provisionally, no 'roid users in this league. I mean, let's just eliminate Lenny Dykstra* and Glenallen Hill*. Seriously.

WHIP (walks + hits / IP)

roster size is up for discussion, but JT's example earlier in the thread looks good.

i think those categories do a good job of isolating individual stats, and keeping it 4x4 is simpler for everyone. holds & other categories would be interesting, but for a casual league i don't know if it makes sense. plus, all the dudes who whined about no SBs last year might shut up now.

the head-to-head league should be pretty easy to keep up with, so i'd like to encourage other dudes here to give it a shot, even if you aren't the biggest baseball fan maybe.

rbi's should really be in there somehow. it makes it more fun to watch, and a 3-run double should really be worth more than a regular double.

i just got rid of rbis to simplify things, and because rbis are kinda bullshit and totally team-dependent. i figured slugging is more accurate for being a badass hitter

also there was no pitching stat i could figure out to add to correspond to RBIs that wasn't super convoluted. i like K/BB but worry it would end up over-representing Ks

i think the thought of having IP is more for rotisserie to prevent someone whose pitchers have an awesome week 1 from sitting them the rest of the year and throwing the k's category. doesn't matter as much in head-to-head, plus it keeps people (like myself) from stacking the IP category with all starters. Either way, i think we should add rbi on the hitting side and k/bb or wins on the pitching side. i agree that both rbi & wins have team dependencies, but baseball itself has team dependencies, and i'd rather have more ways to root for my players and enjoy the season.

as for ways to keep me from cheating this year...1) don't let me draft chase utley 2) don't trade me magglio ordonez and 3) if i offer bill hall for any of your players, don't accept
